A Purpose-Driven Life

Back in 2003 I was in a kind of a “life crisis” and didn’t know what direction to go. I had read Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad and Cashflow Quadrant and realized that working for someone else was NOT what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

I needed to do something different! But do what?

I learned from those books that there were many exciting ways to build wealth. Should I do real estate? Purchase a Subway sandwich franchise? Invest in stocks? Or do this “thing” called network marketing?

After some research, I discovered that network marketing was the BEST option because I neither had much money to invest nor business experience. But I wasn’t convinced or confident that network marketing was the right choice. Until…

One night I started to read The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren. After going through the 40 days of exercises, I realized that God’s purpose for me was to have a positive impact on as many lives as possible. That’s when I realized that network marketing was my destiny, because through my research I learned that this is a coaching and empowerment business. Some people think network marketing is about sales, but selling can only get you so far. To make real residual income you must coach and help others be successful.

To me, that sounded like “making a positive impact,” so on Nov. 14, 2003, I jumped head first and became a distributor in a network marketing company.

The Impact Never Ends

MLM allows you to make a difference that never fades. One example is what happened with my team in the Philippines. My Filipino business started out with a vision in September 2008. I went to Manila and two leaders decided to join me in my vision. Within a short time I helped those two pioneers become full-time professionals, but more importantly, over the years, we’ve indirectly helped thousands.

Those two resulted in over 450 people making a full-time income in network marketing. In the Philippines alone, we created over 20 Diamond directors. The best part is that I don’t even know most of those leaders. They are part of the legacy that never ends. It continues on and on as the people I mentored help their people…, who help their people…, who help their people… to infinity!

My 3 Beliefs about Network Marketing

I love network marketing because of 3 beliefs.

  1. It allows us to fulfill our unlimited potential. We all have unlimited gifts and network marketing pushes us outside our comfort zone to realize those talents.
  2. MLM allows us to give back more to this world. No matter what company, the top leaders are always giving back to society.
  3. We become better parents and leaders in society by the impact we make. The legacy and impact never ends, and we get to leave the world better than when we found it.

Why You Need a Purpose

What’s your purpose? If you are not clear , then you need to find one! Money, travel, etc. are not strong enough motivators to make you do the things that are required for success.

Every time I wanted to quit, I would think of my purpose. I would ask myself, “How would I let God and my family down if I quit? Would I want my children to know their dad was a quitter and stopped doing what he had set out to do?” The thought of setting a bad example for my children would motivate me to keep going.

I would also think about my life and my eulogy. One thing that is guaranteed for everyone is that we will all die on this earth. How do you want people to remember you? Do you want to live a boring life or live a life that has purpose and meaning?

How does network marketing fulfill that purpose and help you achieve what you are here on earth to do? If you ask yourself these questions every day, you’ll soon find yourself thinking differently and stay focused on your business no matter how challenging it can be.

Let Your Purpose Guide You

Your purpose will direct you to bigger things in life. Being a network marketer is probably not your only or ultimate goal. We all have something bigger we want to accomplish, and we see network marketing as a stepping stone to help us get there.

For me, my purpose was to have a positive impact on as many lives as possible. This purpose made me commit to providing generic coaching full time in 2013. I realized I had made a big impact in my company, but I was swimming in a small pond in a world of thousands of lakes and oceans. By doing generic training, I can impact way more people than by building my own MLM business. I’m not suggesting that you follow my footsteps, but for me, giving back to this awesome profession was what God wanted me to do. It was my calling.

We all have a purpose in life. If you’re not sure about yours, I suggest you do some soul searching and find out your true calling. The easiest way to discover this is to write your eulogy. What do you want people so say at your funeral? Whatever you want your eulogy to be, that’s your purpose in life. The best part is that network marketing will allow you to fulfill that purpose and leave the world better than you found it.
