Have you ever been told that you are an emotional basket case? The first time I was told this was when I was fresh out of college in my first “grown up” job. I was the supervisor in a call center for a company that sold training materials for professionals. I had received a call from a woman who was beyond unhappy with our customer service department. She ranted, raved, screamed, and swore – then decided that I personally should be punished for her dissatisfaction. I held it together long enough to hang up from the call, and then I broke into tears.
Nobody had ever spoken to me in such a way. Unfortunately, that would not be the last! Such is the life of a customer service rep. It turned into an incredibly valuable lesson in learning how to:
- Hold my emotions in check;
- Not take things strangers say personally
This lesson has paid off immensely throughout my life. However, I knew then that what I really wanted to do with my life was to work with people who I knew and loved, and not with misguided, baggage-laden strangers. Hello, Network Marketing!
25 years later, I’m still a deeply feeling person . Whenever something touches my heart, I cry. I hear a wonderful testimonial from my company, and I well up. Someone approaches me whose life is in shambles, tears surface. I can’t help it. Not only that, I don’t want to change it. Thankfully, I no longer have a boss who can fire me for “letting my feelings get in the way.”
Traditional business people are good at discrediting the intelligence of feelings. After all, where would we end up if we all “followed our hearts?” Did you ever have a boss ask you, “What’s the most joyful way to conduct business?” Or, “How can we show our customer’s more love?” Never, right? Part of the reason is, in traditional business it’s important to keep the employees “in the box.”
In network marketing, we have the ability to use ALL our gifts to our advantage to create positive change in the world. This includes our emotional intelligence – our gut feelings, our hearts, our internal compass. When you show up in the world living your passion and being your true, authentic self (include your emotions!), you cannot help but attract others who are playing at the high resonating level. “The heart generates the largest electromagnetic field in the body… The electrical field is about 60 times greater in amplitude than the brain waves. The magnetic component of the heart’s field, which is around 100 times stronger than that produced by the brain… can be measured several feet away from the body,” says Rollin Mccarty, PhD.
Research indicates that perhaps it is not so much our intelligence or “what we say,” but “how we make people feel” that’s important.
The energy you send out affects all areas of your life, often unconsciously. Have you ever noticed that when you are having financial challenges, almost everyone you approach has the same money issues as you do? Why do you think this is? Bad economy? Broke from the holidays? Kids going to college? When you think a thought like “I’m broke,” it causes you to feel an emotion and it is the combination of the two, the thought and the emotion, that makes up YOUR energy or vibration. Like attracts like. Broke attracts broke. Your feelings are indicators of your personal reality.Your feelings are indicators of your personal reality. Click To Tweet

One easy way to do this is to create the habit of keeping a gratitude journal. This is especially important after a rough day, not just a stellar day! “Nothing worth having comes easy.” “Hard work pays off.” “Buckle down.” “Work hard and stay focused.” “There is no substitute for hard work.” Ever heard these? This is the belief that success only comes from hard work and sacrifice. What about this paradigm shift…how about joyously working your fanny off? What about being SO in love with what you are doing that the words WORK and HARD never pop up in your mind?What about being SO in love with what you are doing that the words WORK and HARD never pop up… Click To Tweet
